No, Genia! It's she who wears the tux!

Yes Grzegorz, That would be me. I am after all very PATRIOTIC and will do all I can to entertain the boys! But let me ask you, Is that you and the lovely Barbcarb in the last picture 2:48? You sure look very Velentinoish and dapper in that tux.

Genia! Is it you up there, in the "Silver Slipper"? (2:05)I mean the blonde girl in the middle, dancing with that big big & handsome sailor???!

Hi Whizbang, yees I agree, this is a version hundred or thousand times better than Chevalier's. He was just a nice singer, not any kind of a great artist while this orchestra reaches the peak of the masterhood in the fox-trot presentation. I don't think I could find more than 5-6 simirarily hot & crazy but in the same time - so rhythmically disciplined versions.

This is very different, instrumentally, from the
Chevalier recording. I prefer this one by a mile! The lyrics put me in a mind of hayrides, but there are no farms nearby nowadays. We have the music to preserve oldtime romance. Thanks.

I LOVE THIS SONG! It makes me very happy!
Love the lyrics...ADORABLE. WONDERFUL!!!!!
EXCELLENT!!!! THE BEST!!!!!
Love the arrangement.... I would dance my head off. I'm glad the people in 1931 had it, I'm sure they loved it too and I think they needed something like this.

Very beautiful version! There is also another version sung by Maurice Chevalier.

1933 was the height of the Depression. It began late in 1930... and gradually affected more and more people..

The whole arrangement is thought as a joke, even the singer's voice in the end begins to play some sort of a game. It is a self-parody of a hot jazzy dance tune. It is somewhat similar to the style of another great (and forgotten) orchestra of Herb Wiedoeft. (I don't mean Rudy!). |
